Free or Cheap Projects While Quarantined
Hey all! I really want to work on my car while stuck at home but I have no foreseeable income to fund what I really want to do. So what are some free or cheap things I can do to the car during this lock down???

Check and clean your battery terminals.
I left my wife’s 3 year old daily driver in the driveway for a few days and it wouldn’t start when I came back to it. The battery posts and connectors were horribly corroded. |

Remove door panels, lubricate internal door latch and window mechanisms. Reinstall door panels. Enjoy.

Did the AFM check - found that is had a small discontinuity around 25%-30% opening and proceeded to remove the AFM (airfilter first), open it and retrack the wiper. Everything looks top now (no jump visible) and matches the voltage table it is supposed to read.
However, since I have no silicone in the house, I cannot put the cap back on. Waiting for the online store to deliver but it could be up to 2 weeks... Did the leather... Did the spark plugs... Cleaned the wheel wells & underside... Good idea to remove the door cards, I can adress the small rattle in there too ! |

Every few years, or when I think of it, I lube everything I can think of while walking around, under and through the cars. Door locks, hinges, trunk latches, joints whatever.

Remove motor and tranny disassemble and see how things work. Report back to us with a single spaced 10 page essay. You will be graded on grammar.

LOL. As funny as that is, doing a "drop" doesn't cost too much in itself, always a good way to take care of stuff, find vacuum leaks, etc. I've done one every spring for the past few years on the Autocross car and always find something to do. Mind you it was never cheap......

Painted the fresh air intake grille on the cowling. Was starting to fade to silver, now it's flat black.

I had considered doing a drop to check things out but I know that I won't be able to put it back in should I find something but can't afford to replace it!
Vacuum leaks seems pretty easy, would need a smoker type device though. I KNOW my pop off valve is leaking. I have the velvet strip for the sunroof too, maybe get some adhesive and get that looking good! |
