Rubber boot on shifter under or over carpet
I will be putting a new leather cover on my console and can’t remember if the boot goes under or over the carpet before the console it installed. I recall the Leather boot go on prior to console over rubber boot but on top of carpet... correct?

Rubber boot goes under the carpet. If installing a console, I just tuck it in under the console. On top of the carpet.

Want to be sure the console lays flush to the floor... prior, the console was high at the handbrake and I could not put in that 1 screw that holds down the console to the floor ... just in front of the heat levers.

Just completed rebuilding my shifter (new bushings and a Wevo shift coupler) and the rubber boot is tucked under the console cutout, but on top of the carpet. Mine is a ‘84 911.
