Just returned from a test drive to verify that the bushing worked as expected. It did, even on some crap city streets that made the wheel clunk previously. I wanted to get some testing done at speeds over 90 but the coppers were out like spring ticks on a dog so that will have to wait.
Very happy with this bit of kit.

Mike Andrew, thanks for the suggestions. Long story short, after a caliper check, trying to lubricate the bushing, both cooling and then heating the sleeve of the bushing (suggested by Russell, a technical adviser at Rennline), all without success, I tried the second of Russell's suggestions which was to remount the steering wheel and tighten the nut to press the bushing into place. This worked. Kudos to Russell. There is no play in the steering wheel. I reassembled the steering wheel and took the car out for a drive. Perfect.
