Urgent technical advice... does early S deck lid fit 930?

Currently selling 70S alloy deck lid domestically in Japan. Prospective buyer has asked the question will it fit a 930?

I've already said yes to answer after already calling a friend here who confirmed. Not sure however. 930 were 74-89 from memory and friend's confirmation. I just remember having a 73E that had no lid 20 years ago. I bought a lid from a friend but it did not seem to fit just right. The lid is selling for 2K plus, so I should answer this gentleman precisely if I am to do the job right.

I would appreciate any advice from those who have far more experience and knowledge than I do.

Best wishes, and many thanks in advance.

bernie

It fits, but I doubt it would withstand the weight if a 930 tail.

Grille hole on an 78-on 3.3 930 decklid is twice the height, to make room for the intercooler. A/C condenser and rear wiper motor live in the tea-tray tail, so not light once complete, as George says, even though the rubber weighs much the same as the flat lip and the fibreglass base weighs very little.

Thank you George and spuggy for the quick reply! You guys are great! And now Ivan too.

I am glad to hear it fits for sure. I also had that feeling knowing how fragile an alloy early lid is. To be honest, I do not know how this guy would use it if he bought it anyway. I hope he does though and so I have already answered his question accurately and you great guys have confirmed that I have accurately.

It is a bit of a pity that my lid has the hole for the wiper option up top and is 70S. It should actually go to a vintage car that had an alloy lid and the wiper option back in the day. Nevertheless, it would be difficult to find that guy I think, so I would be just happy to sell it here no hassle to a guy that wants it -- 930 no matter how he likes it would be happiness for me. It is an auction sale so I will never care what he does with it. Whether he buys it is another question. I had 3 of them, sold the best one over a month ago for 2.7K, still this one and one more to go. Raising money for a complete engine overhaul.

Thanks so much all!

Sure Ivan, you can see it to answer your question. If you dig into my Pelican threads from a couple years ago I posted one, something like -- value this aluminum deck lid. On that MP forum thread there are pictures of all three I had, or the two I still have.

The tricky part is shipping abroad which is cost prohibitive. Sure the prices were better abroad I knew then, but getting them there was hard I thought. Conversely there was never a good market here in Japan, so I have just decided to sell them here domestically for less.

I have some better pics of the one in question now, cleaned it up and so it is like you may see in those pics, paint peeling off from decades of storage in hot summer Japan. If necessary I can send you more recent pics like those if you want, but for now, dig up those I mentioned on my thread and you can get a gist of two remaining. You will notice the hole for wiper option top left and gold badges. The 3rd has a dent in the rear lip and darker badges. That one is on my 69E and will probably remain there. It was not original to my E so it is still on the table, or up for sale. If you have a contact in Japan, I can ship these in a bicycle box for 30 dollars domestically. Internationally it can be a can of worms -- cost prohibitive and not so interesting.

Best wishes,

bernie

Aluminium sounds great. I had my regular steel one off the SC and weighed it - no hinges or vent but had the latch, 5.44 kilograms.
