Source for heater hoses
 
I recently completed the backdating of my engine compartment with older engine sheet metal and replacement diffusers off the fan. I really like the clean look. The hoses I used for the ducts to SSI's is the only dissapointment. I would really like to use some high heat silicone hosing, around 2.5" ID. I've checked the web and I get lots of tuner type places that don't answer their phone. I know they make a brown corrugated tubing also, but I was interested is something dressier and more rugged. The silver tubing shown lasted one DE weekend before is disintergrated. Thanks.

There is a company in Washington state that manufactures high heat/high pressure composite hoses called Belair Composites. They answer the phone, and can supply you with a custom hose set that will last. Their website is also pretty helpful. I am using them to supply the high pressure hosing from my turbos to the intercoolers.

89911 saw your car at the mechanics a couple of weeks ago, hthey had it in the showroom and i admired it while they put new tires on mine, that car is very nice.

What material are those made of? It looks more durable then the aluminum hoses that are pictured. The material I wanted was similar to the silicone that connects the end of the heater box to the flapper assembly from the factory. If I went with silicone, would a need a straight piece of one with a preformed bend? I'm not sure how flexible that stuff is.

Gary, thanks for the compliment. My car sat there for more then a month. I wasn't in any hurry to get it out until the weather broke. Great guys. Pete is a very good mechanic. I just got it back with the newly painted and mounted Fuchs and I love the look.

Try Aircraftspruce and specialty co. ...they have SCAT / SCEET and host of other silicone tubing in various diameters. Single or double layer...all kinds. I bought from them for the exact same purpose. High quality stuff, red/orange for the version I bought much like pro's use for front brake work ducting on race cars. I'll try to dig up the web address if someone else doesn't chime in.

89911, two questions, first, do you still get a fair amount of heat in the cabin using the footwell blowers or did you remove those also? Second, what is that gauge on the #1 intake runner?

That certainly looks much cleaner than the big honking plastic plenum and blower motor.

Do the snorkels that come off of the fan housing simply replace the plastic plenum and block-off plate? So all you need is the snorkels and the rear sheet metal piece (or do you need the two side sheet metal pieces too)?

I also was going to suggest Aircraft Spruce. Request their free catalog. There's all sorts of cool stuff in there that may come in handy someday.

Kurt,

I was able to get heat from my B&B headers without the assist of the main engine fan or the assist motor in the engine compartment. I didn't have the crossover tube on the heat exchangers installed as shown in this picture:

The only thing I had connected was the tubing that goes from the exchangers to the heater valves. Got pretty good heat. I'm sure the assist motors in the footwells had something to do with that.

Kurt, the heat is good. Sometimes a little too much at high rpm but still functional. The gauge pictured is a fuel pressure one that is attached to the fuel rail. I have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and a MAF that needs adjustments for for maximum HP.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...idOhio 009.jpg

What you really need is the two pieces off the fan. Those can be hard to find. The left one is actually all plastic that was made for just 74's. They bolt into the place that the block off and the heater assist were. I had the sheetmetal that replaced the sides but this could easily be modified by drilling a 2.5 hole in the correct area to run the hose through. My mechanic found these. Engine salvadge yards may have them attached to older engines.

Ordered 8' of an orange silicone 2.5" hose used for aircraft heating. Only $5.00/foot! Great deal compared to the stuff I was looking at the was costing $4.00/inch!! Thanks again.

I bought a big straight piece as we were sharing the hose for a number of projects. I needed a small length to jumper the heat exchangers with the heater valves, and my colleugue needed longer lengths to connect all manner of heat tubing for his SSI's....great stuff, copper-coated wire with silicone body, can "bend" 180 degrees back onto itself quite easily, at least for the 2.5" ( ?) stuff we bought.

Check out this site. They have multiple silicon and specialty hose connectors in different colors.

I have the same massflow set-up installed and a new fuel pressure regulator not installed. What is your take on the whole Huntley system? Will I notice a difference once the fuel pressure regulator is installed? I love the look of your engine without the big blower assembly and would like to do the same. was there anything tricky involved with your blower removal?
