Dallas 959?!

Was driving though my neighborhood this weekend and was startled to be right in front of a silver 959. It took a couple of seconds for me to believe what I was seeing. I'd never seen one "in the flesh" that I recall. It did not appear to be a re creation but what do I know...curious if anyone knows anything about this car. I'll be Jack Griffin knows who it is. Probably only Dallas Porsche fans know who Jack is...Tried to explain what a 959 is to my wife and she was utterly unimpressed.

We have a little car show in our local PCA region to raise some money for a charity. Typically 40 cars or so. A few years back a guy drove up in his 959 and entered. I stood there with my mouth open in stunned silence. The car that won "peoples choice" was a 1960s VW van only because everyone knew what is was, and had some first hand interaction with a VW van in their life. Only the Porsche old timers knew what a 959 was.

We have "Fuelfed" cars and coffee events here around Chicago. A local has a black 959. It was at one event and went virtually unnoticed.

The cars n coffee in the DFW area used to be at the giant BMW dealership up i Plano. I was shocked how many exotics were there. I have an old friend who brought his Huracan there and it seemed like nothing special...there was an F1 car there at some point. My favorites really became the old models like M1's, original M5s and some really old Ferraris. And of course the Porsches. I'll never be able to afford anything like that but it's still a blast to actually get to SEE them.

There is actually an Indy shop here in the Boston area that is known for their 959 service. I've seen them at shows, but never one on the street.

I've seen 2 in the same shop at the same time. There was also an 73RS in there that day.

One of the 959's was "a driver". The owner also owned the "driver" RS. Good for him I say!

You guys need to stop into Canepa Motorsports in Scotts Valley, CA. The last time I was they had 6 959's all undergoing full restorations. I am talking Councours quality across the board.

The 959's at Canepa are not restorations. They are cars being, IMHO, modified to ruin. I opine.

The shop is in Natick. Serviced and rebuilt many 959's. About a dozen or so. Better than the factory. Trust me, I know.

Canepa resto-mods 959's. I tend to agree, a car like a 959 should be preserved as stock.

I would be inclined to agree, what Canepa does during a restoration certainly is beautiful but it in no way represents what the cars were.
I dont really like the modified 959s as he does them personally. I could see some of the bolt on stuff if you actually drive it like better pads or nicer shocks but Ehhhh want something fast, no matter what you do to it it wont ever beat a newer more modern car.
Its all marketing to a fantasy of what people think the car "should be"

Someone I know that knows him personally says "Bruce's greatest talent is finding out how much money someone has and squeezing the most he can out of someone for services."
Not to say that the services are unfairly priced but a master of "while were in there"
