I put a large round magnet on the oil tank to garner anything...and remove it when draining the oil....the small sump bolt has the magnet on it. I also regularly cut open oil filters.....

My mistake, I should have been more specific. I'm asking about a 1987 3.2.

On my '87, I believe it's M22x1.5 in the tank, and M20x1.5 in the sump.

Disagree.
The factory plug installed properly should last a lifetime of oil changes, that’s only way sttuttgart would have designed it !

Can’t say the same for the Fumoto.

Lol...like the exploding airbox, Carrera valve guides, head studs...water cooled scored cylinders, IMS bearing.....but hey, they got that drain bolt down just right!

I've had fumoto valves on both of my cars for the last 15-20 years.
Still waiting for them to break.

In the meantime...no gushers of oil when changing and much easier to clean up.

I wouldn't install any brass plug into the case. The tank plug is a piece of cake.

Looks like there's a "rubber" gasket instead of the factory Al washer. Does that need to be replaced every oil change ?

Of course not... The valve is not removed for oil changes; that's the whole point ;-)

Go with whatever route you are comfortable with...Fumoto has been on the market for decades without issues.
I've used one for years now...if it scares you don't use it.

Our drain plugs are 22mm -1.5 ... well, for a 3.0 SC engine ... correct?

if the Fumoto comes with a rubber washer, has anyone thought about ditching that rubber washer and replace it with the Porsche factory aluminum washer? Would doing that be a plus or minus, what do you think?

I do this as well for the tank oil. Mine is the vertical hand pump one that holds about 8 quarts. Then pull the plug to get the last half quart or so. Works great on the wife's car, boat, lawn mower etc. Clean easy way to manage oil, especially if its hot.

Another thing I like is when I take the oil to the recycle center it is already in a container that can be safely transported.

Edit: Oops. Old thread.

Hello all. If I wanted to use Stahlbus drain plugs on both the engine and the oil tank of my 964 C2, which ones should I buy? (Are they the same size?) M20 x 1.5 for both?
