Porsche Crest 83' 911sc Unknown Wire

I’m replacing my O2 sensor and came across this pair of wires that is taped at the ends and don’t know what it’s for. It follows up to the tray but is also attached to the rear deck lid hinge. The two wires are grey and brown as seen in the photo.

Thanks,

Steve

Not really sure the value of the grommet since the wire just clips to the center re-enforcing metal when its close to the light. Open to a lot of abuse.

Where does that circuit go? Mine wont come on. Socket and bulb are good. Tried with the door open, closed, lights on, lights off, parking light on. Cant get power to the bulb.

the wire goes through the rear decklid little hole and ands at the center where the light unit should be located...therefore the grommet is a sign...If you do not get power to it ...trace the wiring culprit via diagram...

The grey wire should plug into a short grey wire coming out of the driver side tail light 6 pin connector by the fuse panel.
It is only powered when the running lights are on.

Has anyone got a picture of where this engine lid light is positioned? I'd like to fit one if I knew where it went.

Not every deck lid has the metal tabs that the light screws to. Mine doesn't.

Mark S. in this case, if there is a original wire there will be the bracket to mount the light;-)

here a help for the Op and you..
My wire is run correctly and the bulb illuminates with power applied to the socket terminals so I know that end is good. as mentioned, ive tried the headlights in every way possible and no power. Im waiting on a manual that has wiring diagrams but in the mean time if there is a circuit I could check, appreciate it.

Thats the round connector that passes through the left side rear fender to provide brake, signal & running lights correct? I have running lights.

Photo for you. (From a really bad old harness)
Grey wire with connector is supply to hood lamp.
Check it has a good connection and power when running lights are on.

Thanks for the pic. Thats the one I was thinking of. Had that unplugged recently trying to chase a bad ground on the tail light. Dont recall the connector but will take a look tomorrow. Tried to chase it today but the trunk wire loops down past the fuel filter and I cant see anything after that. Pulling on it moves the main trunk harness.
