FRS work well but sometimes have interference.
I have considered a BT direct talk setup like most motorcycles use. However, the range is just not there unless you are riding bumpers. Really wish our group could go to CB.

If I add a CB to my pile of parts and equipment, you’ll be hearing from my wife. Just saying.

I use these. Also have a set of cobra that seem to work similar. Work a mile or so with cars.

I use Midland GXT. I got them on the recommendation of folks in PCA. They work well.

Have a look for baofeng , seaden , and arcshell on Amazon .
You can get a 6-pack of arcshell for around 60 bucks .’ we use Motorola at work that need proffesional installation , but have used cheap multipacks off Amazon for certain Tasks . |

We use Motorola walkies. An older model but they still usually talk to other / or newer models. Yeah range seems to be about a mile. Great for chit chatting and such on roadtrips with buddies

Thanks for the replies
I think i'll give these $60 motorola radio's a try. It would be cool to have a cb radio, but I'm sure that's a lot more costly and needs to be wired in to the car. |

If you are looking for a good FRS (free radio service) portable, get the one's that have a removable antenna with the SMA connector on the radio. That way you can plug in an external antenna (soft magnetic type) and put it on your roof and double the range.
BTW the Beofeng's have up to 8 Watts of output on some models.

You can get a GMRS license which covers your whole family and no test required just go on the FCC website fill out the app and pay the fee, it gives you more options plus there is a decent amount of repeaters that will increase your range. Getting your full HAM licenese is pretty easy too and then your options really open up.
