Porsche Crest Brand new car: $19,000; 0-60 in 5.6 seconds; 153 MPH

I got my latest Road&Track mag, and saw this car in it: Less than $19,999 new; 0-60 in 5.6 seconds; 153 MPH; 223 HP; over 30 miles per gallon-

Comparison: (1981 Porsche 911 SC 0-60=6.7 seconds; $41,000 new; 205HP; 25MPG)

http://www.allpar.com/neon/neon-srt-4.html

From the looks of things, this car could spank many of our 911's while taking the family to the grocery store!!!
I truly hate Dodges, but I really like the Subaru WRX, but this is almost half the price of a WRX, and a fraction of the cost of a nice 911.

Take the seats out, put on low restriction pipes and fatter tires, and this car will rip- I'm concerned !!

Input ??????

What would you rather be seen in? And what do you think that car will be worth in 5 years?

Have you ever been in a dodge. They just feel cheap. After 50k miles they feel like they are shaking apart. With the exception of the Viper, of course. I'm sure the ricers will love it.

Just my opinion.

How is this half the price of a WRX? I got mine for $24k.

Hey what ever flips your boat, i would rather drive the wifes s40 then a neon, anyway 20 grand is an awfull lot for that car, we will see a lot of higher HP cars come with small engines as technolgy grows, anyone with one of these neons want to take on an old 82 sc bring it on, Kevin

I think that in five years, the depreciation on a new Porsche would have paid for the Neon.

Yeah, Neons really suck. Mine has 235,000 miles, won 2 SCCA Divisional Championships, won it's class in every rallycross entered. uses no oil, totally original except for alternator and motor mounts. And the AC is cold!

1 question:

Would you actually try for 153 mph in that thing??

Honestly?

There was a new one in the auto-x school I attended a couple weeks ago. In stock trim it appeard to plow all over the place, so it would need some work in the suspension department. Power, boy did it have horsepower! The guy was smoking tires all over the place.

It's like apples and oranges to compare it to a 911 though.

That is true... at least for about 10,000 miles- thats when the head gasket blows. You will also be parked at the end of the parking lot when you valet...

Well my Neon is rock solid at 130mph and the 911 is a scary, white knuckle ride at 100mph, so I would say yes.

Sounds like you need to do some work on your T if it is a white knuckle ride at 100 mph. My '86 is all grins at that speed.

Unfortunately, when it's all said and done, it's still a Neon. A quick Neon, but still a Neon. No escaping that. Chrysler's on the right track (no pun intended) but....it's still a Neon!
