Heat not turning off

My heater is running even when turned off. What’s the deal?

does the '87 have the 1000 dollar problematic NLA solenoids, as opposed to the earlier readily available 10 dollar chunk of wire?

Are the fans running or is it just pumping out heat all the time due to the heater boxes not closing?

Did you not see that Texas had below zero temperatures for over a week last February? It does get cold in Texas!

Fix the problem properly so you can have defrosters and be comfortable in cold weather. Block it off is as wrong and removing the AC system because it does not work. FIX the problem, and have a car that functions properly.

This is in Eureka Springs, Arkansas on a Porsche Palooza weekend to see the fall foliage. Great roads and great friends. It was 16 degrees that morning. I was really happy to have the kick butt heaters of my 911.

It has the red tipped levers between the seats so I assume the chunk of wire.

Thanks everyone. I’ll take it over to Laszlo and hopefully get a broken wire fixed.

Probably just a spray and readjust. I had my stuck open less than 1/4 inch and you'd be AMAZED how much heat that let through.

I had to redo mine (Canadian weather). Pulling off the old flappers can be a real pain, easier if you have a lift available. If you go that route, you can recondition but looking back, new ones are easier and almost as cheap given sourcing replacement parts. The key is the closure and if those flapper seals are in good shape (test with a blower to see if they let air through). The replacement of the wires requires pulling psgr seat out, then handbrake assembly to get to wires and then you can route them (again, a lift is so much better then squeezing under the car).

There are various guides to be examined to ensure they are in good shape and not binding

IMHO

relube/readjust if necessary.
the "set screw" is tiny - best ensure it's soaked with penetrating fluid beforehand.

+1 on cabmando's point. Almost closed lets a lot of heat through.

Also, bob's point on replacing the flapper boxes is worth considering. I cleaned mine up, but they were pretty far gone and will have to be replaced next time.
