Nitrous
Wondering if there is any company doing nitrous oxide kits for 911's. I have experience of nitrous when I fitted a 150hp set up onto my 289 s/b Ford - lots of fun but has anyone got a set up and if so how did it perform. My engine is a 2.4 on Webers so it's fairly basic.

The 2.4 motors aren't necessary the most robust. Would be curious to hear if anyone has had luck NO2'ing one.

They are quite expensive engines to blow up.

While I definitely see the appeal, it’s not something I’d risk with a 911 motor. Especially a 2.4

If you decide to go with it...I recommend Zex..the safest nitrous kits. (a/f ratio is safe)
I don't have a kit on my 911's, but I installed a 75 shot(hp) Zex kit on my 98 Prelude. Have gone thru many tanks and it hasn't harmed the engine one bit. I also use a tank heater, to keep the pressure up, and a remote bottle opener so that everything can be done from the seat. It's fun, but around here, the nitrous is getting expensive. Was $25/fill, now it's $55 Zex.com

I have put nitrous on many mopar small and big blocks with very good results when using modern EFI along with it to control timing etc... One of the most important things is to assure ring gap is appropriate for the application, unless you are willing to tear the engine apart and start at the rings i would not suggest adding nitrous. I agree with the other comments, nitrous has gotten expensive and in my opinion is more for the 1/4 mile, a 911 of any area is not built to just go fast in a straight line and too expensive to experiment around with.

Does it really stress the engine more than a turbo would? Sounds like easy HP. Maybe not ideal for a 2.4 but a 3.2 yes.

Nitrous carries a terrible stigma. Most of it is undue.
If a person follows the rules..it's safe. The Zex kits work differently to keep the a/f mixture correct. They are set-up to only spray when at wot. Spraying at less than wot...can damage the engine. Unlike the movies...not necessary to 'push a button' for the extra horsies. Your foot does the whole job.

Don (haycait911) had a nitrous setup on one of his cars... i think he has posted about it before. Do some poking around and you should find something about it.

I changed mine to air filter injection. Spreads the mixture out better. (line going into filter)

Obvious problem with a boxer engine is the physical layout which precludes just shoving a pipe up the air cleaner. I expect I shall have to drill and tap each inlet port for the injector and consequently I shall have to make very sure the amount of nitrous is absolutely correct with regard to quantity and balance to the additional fuel. One point in my favour is that at WOT the Webers although being correctly tuned, do hurl in quite a good amount of fuel. I wasn't too aware of your recommendation of ZEX, I have emailed them for information and I note they are part of the Edelbrock family (just read the Edelbrock story - most interesting) so I would hope their pedigree is very good.
Most folks I know say nitrous for a Porsche? you must be joking, but I have always been a little left field so we shall see how this project transpires. ![]() ![]() |

Most folks I know say nitrous for a Porsche? you must be joking, but I have always been a little left field so we shall see how this project transpires. Those folks have watched too many 'Fast and Furious' movies. ![]() Some see it as an explosive liquid flowing into your engine...while all it is doing is condensing the air. . Keep us posted.

I think you would have to make your own kit and install a nozzle in each manifold with Webbers.
It can be done, but you are going to have an issue breaking head studs. And what is the goal? You still won't win a drag race.

^^^would you say no to 100 extra hp on your Porsche?
He is not talking about making it only go in a straight line.

Hmm... a 2.4 in a 356 - hat's off, sir, a really bytchn combination. Which leads me to ask - which tranny? That may prove to be your "tentpole" item. A mag case 901 might not be happy with that kind of power. A mag case 915 would be happier. An aluminum case 915 would be happiest. You would probably peel an original 356 tranny like a banana with that kind of power, but you are probably there already, so that's why I'm assuming one of the afore mentioned 911 trannies is being used.

Im assuming this would only be done in a non CIS setup given that a good fart can pop the airbox,
