Fuchs Alternatives

Hello all. It’s been quite some time since I last posted. I have an 84 911 cab. I have 7”Fuchs in front and 9”Fuchs in back. Looks pretty good and I like the wheels of course.

Besides BBS, what Fuchs like wheels are an option.

Used to be that Lindsay racing made wheels using 6” inner Fuchs but I guess they don’t anymore.

Sorry, I'm confused. Do you want the Fuchs look or not? BBS wheels may be Porsche- and period-correct, but they look nothing like Fuchs. There are lots of options whether you want a Fuchs look or if you want something totally different.

Do a search on the forum , i'm sure somebody created a thread with show your wheels or something to that matter.
I currently have 17 inch Fikse FM10's on my car and the tire selection is also much better in 17 inch sizes.

As a matter of fact we do! I found this pretty incredible thread that is nearly 20 years old at this point! It's really interesting to see how timeless some designs are.

I'd also highly recommend looking into Braid usa wheels. There are some fuch style mixed in the catalog but they also have a bunch of other options

The main reasons to move from Fuchs to custom are;

different wheel OD
custom width custom ET

What is it that you are trying to accomplish?

The Speedline Rufs posted above are nice and are always a favorite

but you can get custom Braid that look like Fuchs but have custom width, ET and dimeter too

I got REAL lucky a few years ago in buying a 17" Euromeister set from our host, right before they became NLA. The purchase price was so low as to be virtually free, and they look very much like authentic Fuchs. They are probably crappy wheels, but they are straight and true.

If you do change your wheels don't sell the fuchs.

Chances are you'll go back to them.

Agreed. If you have 7 & 9" Fuchs, hang onto them.

I never should have sold the Fuchs to the guy who begged me for a month to sell them to him, he probably doesn't even own the car anymore !

I guess i'm a wheel hoarder ...

That is a non issue

5# wheel difference comes to ~3lb-ft difference, barely perceptible to most drivers, like adding ~13# to the chassis

lol. Thanks guys. I like the Fuchs look but the tire sizes are the issue. If I could have done Lindsay I would have. So I guess I’m looking for options that replicate the Fuchs but allow for bigger tires

That’s all? And here I am fretting over the extra weight of 7/8 Euro Meister Fuchs. (That and the fact that they’re cast replicas)

So it sounds like you'd be willing to bump up to 17" wheel sizes, for better tire options. There are 2 or 3 options for cast replicas (Euromeister, Rota Fox, and the other one whose name escapes me at the moment but is sold by a Pelican). Some of those cast wheels are no longer made, but you may find them used from time to time. Fuchsfelge makes a 17" size, but the offsets are for later cars, so unless you'd have to use spacers/adapters to fit those wheels on your car. Braid makes a Fuchs replica in various sizes/widths. Probably the most expensive way to go would be Fikse (3-piece, forged), but with custom sizing.

It's not like I have to carry them around on my back.
They are mounted on my car, which is plenty quick and powerful enough to move around a few extra pounds.

Aside from the Fuchs wheel, you have seen, in my opinion, the top 3 other options, in no particular order. Superlites (Mini-Lite style), Campagnolo and of course, the Ruf wheel (my personal favorite due to ease of cleaning and simplicity).

there are now some really good street-centric tire options available in the 245/45-16 and 205/50-16 tire sizes your Fuchs require

Specifically:

Yokohama A008p
Yokohama A052
Bridgestone Potenza Sport
Pirelli PZero
Pirelli P7
Michelin Pilot SX MXX3 (from Coker tire)
