I found this thread when researching how to improve headroom in my '85 Carrera. Sadly, I can confirm the '85's factory seat towers are taller than '86-on. But I didn't know that when I bought mine.

For me, the above-mentioned Pelican "How To" article worked (to an extent): (https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_tall_drivers/911_tall_drivers.htm)

By easing the final bend at the rear of those four S-springs under the seat and removing the links between them and the outermost pair of springs, it allows the bottom cushion to sag a bit more than before. Doing this gained me about 20mm of headroom, which gets me roughly down to where the '86-on cars are. It's not a miracle cure, but it feels way more comfortable and has the advantage of being FREE. This mod also cups the bottom cushion a bit more, improving perceived lateral security.

Just thought I'd leave this note here to give hope to others on their quest for more headroom. I still want custom fabricated angle-brackets, low-slung shell seats, and a sunroof-delete reskin, but money doesn't grow on trees! lol
