I needed to a place to vent. I started my brake restoration project in March of 2020. Had the calipers redone and started going through all of the hard and soft lines. Car has 58k miles but looks like the rubber lines were never replaced.
For the love of god and all that is holy.... those rear hard lines... It was like they were welded to the soft lines. I guess from all of the years of heat cycles did it. So I have been working on this off an on for years. Life has just been busy. So I finally get this thing back up on jack stands and get under it. The 11mm flare rounded all the nuts so I ended up taking tin snips to the retainer clips and then cutting the flare heads off at the rear hub and where they meet the rubber lines. The rear hub wasn't bad, I guess because it is brass. I had to support the transmission with a jack and then remove the transmission mount bolts and the mounting plate so I could get access to the hub. I am guessing there is no way to get that driver's side line in without having to drop the engine/transmission? I am too fat and old to lay on the floor anymore. I called the concrete guy to come look at my garage floor. I bought a MaxJax last year and then boom, had to move. I think it is time to install it at the new house. So now my "simple" brake project has turned into dropping the engine/trans, replacing all hard lines, resealing and cleaning the engine, replacing all the rusty bolts, studs, and nuts everywhere, and doing the fuel lines. Here are some photos to document my pain: ![]()
