1979 911 SC - hyd chain tensioners
I have hyd tensioners on my 911 SC and was wondering if there are any rebuild kits available.
The bleed valve consisting of a light spring and a ball bearing, held in by a vey flimsy pressed steel collar, looks very precarious and my concern is it coming out during running and potentially causing all sorts of havoc. Any comments please?

Over Reacting……….
These Carrera hydraulic tensioners are very reliable and robust. Hundreds of people are driving their cars in the tracks for years with no problem. If you are worried sick with your hydraulic tensioners replace them with mechanical tensioners like they use for race motors. But this is an over-kill solution.
These Carrera hydraulic tensioners are not 100% fool-proof. Some added collars and other mechanical contraptions to prepare for an expected failure. I would not worry too much. Pay attention to your engine noises and enjoy driving the car. Or let it be a garage queen for less stressful experience. You have a greater chance of being rear ended or getting involve in a vehicular accident than a hydraulic failure. Tony |

Yes, I have noticed the cage that holds the ball in the bleed valve on the original Porsche part is much stronger than the later “kits”. If the cage is wobbly, loose or weak you’re concern is warranted. The issues with these has been described and discussed in other threads.
