’73 thru the grill driving lights install
I’ve read several threads on this topics many with custom mounting solutions. This adds another to the list. Hopefully it helps someone…
After switching to LED headlights a few years ago for better nightime vision in rural suburbia (avoiding deer, racoons, beavers and assorted 4 legged mammals), the yellow’ish aux halogen driving lights just did not work or look right. After much searching to find similar sized LEDs, I finally landed on CIBIE Oscar Minis. They are a little larger though not by much. They did, however, pose a mounting problem as the existing brackets just wouldn’t work without cutting out most of the horn grills and wedging the new lights in. To solve this, I had a simple extension bracket fabricated with an elongated hole to allow an adjustable mounting slightly more forward. This also allows the lights to be removed and remounted without needing to take the batteries out and removing the entire bracket. Now waiting for Spring to make final adjustments. The old halogen.. Bracket extension. If I had to do it again, I would either extend the elongated adjustment hole or make the bracket a few mm shorter ![]() Etch primer + Porsche stain black trim paint much cleaner/ fewer horn grill cut outs ![]() Cut outs barely noticeable
