Wow. It’s amazing what you find the more you dig.

I used dry ice to pull up insulation on my old project

Well, I've been tied up with work and a few medical issues so I did not have much tine to work on the car. This week, I've made some more progress and found more rust issues.

First, here is the progress on the door weatherstrip areas. I ground down the former repair area, used rust sealer, primer, and then seam sealer since the rust areas were pretty small. It filled in nicely. I then painted the areas in Conda Green, the original color.

You can see the contrast with the Viper Green that the PO did to the car. I plan to eventually have the entire car repainted in Conda Green, the the exterior will match the interior.

I again used rust encapsulation (Eastwook) on the rear seat area and then primed and painted.

During the process, I found more rust behind the rear panel under the rear window. I had a nice hole going into the engine compartment. I encapsulated the area and then used seam sealer to fill the whole for now. More work will need to done later when the car is painted,

So now I have both door seal areas done and now just need to do the floors. I ran out of paint so it may be a week or so until I can get them done. I just want to get it out and drive it.... Summer is here.

I'm really likeing the Conda Green. No idea why the PO changed it, maybe they wanted it to be an RS clone. I plan to make an ST clone/hot rod. Much more period correct for a 1970. And Viper Green was not a color option until 1973.

Got some more work done yesterday. Primed and painted the floors. Today the plan is to lay down carpet. I'm planning to use underlayment, which is 2mm thick to fill in the depressions and even out the carpet. I'll post up the results. I plan to do a roll bar so I'm not covering the area where ti would be installed yet.

Awesome build. Have a question for ya on the shifter. Will you have to cut the carpet to fit the new shifter or is it the same size as the stock one, looks a bit larger.

Yes, it's larger than the stock shifter. But I like the looks so no boot for me.

Well, more medical issues but hopefully I am able to move on this project and get it up and running. I tried starting it and the battery is completely dead as in really dead. No charging... So, fortunately, I already had the Rennline battery relocation kit sitting on the bench and waiting for me to install it. I guess now is the time. I took the positive cable and ran it along behind the fuel tank and into the smugglers box using the preexisting hole that was used for the connector that attached to whatever was in there. It was taped off so obviously not being used but the hole meant I didn't have to do any drilling. And the cable is long enough. I did some minor surface rust mitigation. I had to order parts and wire to feed back out the same hole for the fuse block and relays. Here is where I am at right now.

This is what was in there when I bought the car.

Rust prevention and will be Conda Green shortly

Old battery

New Battery - the kit comes with the correct posts.

Installation stuff.

Planning to do similar. But why bother. Can’t we dynamat on top of the insulation dry layer?

Smart chargers wont charge a dead, dead battery.
If you want to revive the battery jump it with another battery to get some juice in it then a newer charger may charge it. Or get an old battery charger with an analog needle on the front and use that.

Yep, did that with my battery box. It did nothing. Car would not even turn over with a fully charged battery box hooked up.

If all you want is more insulation then just leave it alone and put more on top of it. My goal is to reduce weight. So getting rid of all the old insulation is a way to do that. I lost about 40lbs of weight taking it all out.

I got another break this week and spent some time on the 911. I decided to get a wire block for the positive wires since I will have several relays and don't want to wire over to the battery. I also ran a 4awg wire from the battery to the fuse block and also kept the mounted the wire to the starter at the battery. I wanted a good ground so I found a hole that had a plastic plug. Used my riveter to install a 10mm rivnut in the hole after scraping off the paint to get a good ground. Car started right and i'm driving now. Winter time will be a redo of the fuse block and also getting a relay setup since I will have some more relays for the EFI.

Most of my evap system has been removed by the PO so today, I pulled out all the extra hoses in the frunk and the engine bay. Has anyone removed the hard lines in the tunnel? It would be nice to clean that up also. Dead weight right now.

Been driving the car and enjoying it a lot. I finally got my exhaust setup from Brian at M&K. The stock exhaust is pretty restrictive considering my 2.8L build. We installed the exhaust, which was a breeze and kudos to Brian and team for a really nice setup.
