" Well, yes, this IS devastating. Not just to the forum, or the P car community, but to the greater society where he existed.
What an example of how to be a human."

I wasn't sure how to put my thoughts to words, but lateapex911 did it for me!
Well put.

I'll miss his thoughtful reponses. I never met him in person, but always a gentleman on-line.

Steve was a great, great help to me in my rebuild. He showed me around his shop in Sherwood and it was like walking into Porsche heaven for me. I'm sad to hear this. He will be missed.

Glad I got to meet him at his shop back in 2014, which took some doing as I live in Norway. He was kind enough to show up on a Sunday just to show me around. He was always so helpful, be it over the phone or here on Pelican. A loss to our community for sure!

Heard about Steve's passing this past weekend. I meet up with Mike Bruns over the weekend and Mike told me about Steve's passing.

Steve was my go to guy when I needed info about the earlier engines. He had a encyclopedic mind on these engines.

Sad and will be missed. This Porsche world does not have enough good people to lose someone of that stature.

Very sad news indeed.... I've been spending tons of time over the last couple of years researching every detail of these cars and must have reads hundreds of posts by Steve, where he generously shared his immense knowledge and experience.

He was genuinely a good human and will badly be missed by many, as this thread shows.

R.I.P. my man!

Just last year he tuned the DME for my 993 varioram conversion. The engine had come out of a car that had burned and the water from the fire department had done a real number on the DME. Not to be denied, he painstakingly restored the DME resold wrong the joints and cleaning it up. He took a genuine interest in project Karl which my son and I were building. This is so sad. I am thankful to have worked with him.

I'm shocked and I can't believe it and I had no idea. I don't get on the board here much these days. Great guy who had so much knowledge and no ego. A true loss to the community.

I had seen this thread back when Steve passed and wanted to say my piece, but life got in the way. I just saw (via Pelican classifieds) that his car is up for sale on BaT. I Commented the following there but wanted to share here as well. I wrote the following:

Could this car be the most sorted and well-maintained air-cooled 911 out there? Based on my interactions with Steve, I think it is a distinct possibility. He helped me sort my '86 3.6 G50 Carrera. When the discerning enthusiast is seeking opinions and advice, often you have to take what experts and enthusiasts say, mix it with your own knowledge/intuition, and distill it down to what makes the most sense. Not with Steve- every single piece of knowledge he generously shared was backed up by well-thought-out reasoning and anecdotal evidence that all added up perfectly- so much so that I would daydream of approaching him to write a book. It would be called "The Gospel According to Steve".

I was sorry to hear of his passing. If you have a question about your air-cooled 911, or just want to understand what a generous and knowledgeable gentleman Steve was, go read his posts on Pelican or Rennlist and take what is written as the word of a Porsche God for the people of a Porsche God. Bless you Steve!

I hope it ends up with someone who will truly appreciate it. That was important to Steve. He and his wife had no children. They had cats, and they set up a trust to take care of them. And then he had this car. Steve spent a lot of emotional energy trying to find someone he could give or sell the car to, but he never found someone before his time came. I hope the buyer will buy it because it was Steve’s car.

Stop bidding and I will take care of the car for as long as I live.
