What could this be?

Hi guys,

I'm reinstalling my wiring loom at the moment and came across some kind of fuse.
I did some research and checked the photos I took but could not find what it could be or what it's purpose is.
So I decided to ask the all knowing pelican community
Any ideas?

With kind regards,

David

sorry, I'm having some trouble uploading photos...

It's connected to three positive (red) wires and the positive terminal.

Looks like a relay for dealer installed air conditioner. I removed one similar from the trunk on my ‘77. I don’t have a pic of mine but it was connected from fuse block to smuggler box condenser blower, maybe the wiring loom for the controls.

That certainly is NOT a Porsche part. Some aftermarket think that could be just about anything. Lots of, car phones, alarm systems, stereos and amplifiers, and other stuff were added on by electrical butchers.

David, it’s a circuit breaker. Probably made by Buss fuse company. They come in specific amperage rating. You might find a stamping on the cover if you clean it lightly with some steel wool.

Ah-ha…Circuit breaker not a relay ! Can’t recall if I ever found the relay.
This is what I had on my dealer AC, as some stated could be alarm too.

That is a thermal circuit breaker, when amperage goes above specified load a bi metal strip opens, when it cools off it closes

Thanks guys, you’ve been a big help. The car did have a dealer installed AC that won’t be returning. Thanks again.
David
