Carbs & EDIS - Rev Limiter
Hello all, finishing up a 3.0 build with PMOs and EDIS being controlled by Microsquirt. I'm wondering how to set a good rev limiter? EDIS cannot do spark cut and obviously a fuel cut isn't going to fly. I'm assuming it's not as simple as setting the hard rev limit and being done? Current settings are attached. Engine builder has recommended a 7200 rpm limit.

Can the microsquirt tell edis to retard spark; 10 deg atdc will knock the power way down, 50 should kill the power and make a crazy sound so you take your foot off the pedal

Yes, the EDIS can do spark limit rev limiter but only through the microsquirt. EDIS can not do rev limit on its own but certainly will respond when the microsquirt tells it to stop sparking or changes the time when it does spark.
It works great. You just want to turn ON "enable spark cut limiting". Since you are running ignition only the fuel cut will do you no good. the spark retard will start to pull timing (up to 12 deg with current setting) when you get into that 200 rpm range close to 7300. Then full shut down at 7300.

I incorporated a rev limiter to the Vampire knock controller a couple years ago.
The rev limiter can be used for top end or for staging, and can be enabled with either a 12v or a ground signal. No wires are cut or intercepted. For EDIS with waste spark, you would need a three channel Vampire. Features are individual cylinder knock retard, boost retard, nitrous retard, and an adjustable rev limiter. The rev limiter operates by swallowing just enough energy from the coil to kill the spark. For six cylinder operation, software fires three cylinders, skips two, then repeats. This rotates the misfiring cylinders, preventing plug fouling. Video showing operation here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NjYMpQwaQ8 In case of twin plugs, I have a "Dual Three Channel" version. The six control wires tap into the six coil negative signals. See connection diagram below:
