When is it time to sell?

Sometimes circumstances change.

These cars are very special and should be driven and enjoyed for the rare experience that they give the driver. There aren't many cars that are built these days that require the driver involvement that our older 911's do.

I had my 911 in with Dave at TRE, fixed everything that needed to be fixed, a fellow Pelicanite checked it over, but came in a couple of grand under my asking price, so I kept it.

It's been a great 17 years of ownership. Will I miss it when my price is met - of course, but someone should enjoy it and be driving it more than I can these days.

I had two amazing 356C coupes that I thought I’d never sell.
Then I bought a 76S 911 with 11K original miles and yet the engine had been pulled apart to be resealed and upgraded with the things a 2.7 needs.
I found myself a little disappointed in the 356s after that. Mostly torque and fuel injection making the difference.
I have 3 air cooled 911s now and I hold the opinion that I’ll never own a Porsche newer than 1998. My opinion is much harsher than that but I’ll spare you.
These air cooled treasures are hand made masterpieces developed through racing pedigree and really are all that we need to drive on the streets without going to jail.
New plastic fantastic cars feel like they were built to be recycled or safely hit pedestrians…not built to endure and be handed down to future generations. They are sterile, they feel chintzy, and they will get you in serious trouble when you try to feel like you are “really driving it” on public roads.
If you sell an aircooled 911, I’d recommend pouncing on another right away.

This thread is great therapy and am impressed as always by the intelligent and thoughtful advice provided to the original poster. I’ve been going back and forth, thinking about moving to a 996 4S for safety reasons blah blah blah. I swapped cars for the weekend with the owner of a 2003 Turbo and it was thrilling BUT I kept thinking about how much trouble I could get into. It’s the old adage, “more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow”.
