Sugar scoop to H4 upgrade
I think that upgrading my sugar scoops on my 70’ to H4 should be plug and play based on searching forums here but wanted to confirm that I’d the case and I don’t need to do any wiring or plug changes. My sugar scoops are very crusty so once I remove the bulbs there isn’t any going back. Wanted to 3x check here before i start. Thanks in advance

Yeah, you're good to go bud.
I took the sugar scoops off my SC and put Euro H4's on. No new wiring, wiring mods, or anything. You can add a relay if you like, but it's not necessary. The only speed bump I had was due to lack of knowledge, as outlined below: The (Euro) H4's don't use the same mounting holes as the sugar scoop sealed beam lens. The new lens hooks on to the top of the factory bucket, and screws in to the bottom of the light bucket. Easy peasy. The sugar scoop was designed to meet US sealed beam light requirements, so the factory just put the sugar scoop mounts into the rest of the world's mounts. The US market cars (mostly) can accommodate both styles.

You need the relays, cheaper than a headlight dimmer switch

some folks have issues with the seals when mounting -- apparently aftermarket seals for VW beetles can help -- this thread (and the myriad of threads linked in it) should help https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/697738-frustration-post-h4-install.html - also, worth considering zip-tying the assemblies in, as a fair # of folks have run over their H4s shortly after mounting. Also, be sure to re-aim once installed.

FWIW, the easiest, least expensive way to H4’s is to get a pair of 7” Hella H4 replacement units. I recommend you get the E Code ones for the Euro pattern (marked as “not street legal”). This gives you the same light pattern as the Bosch Euro replacements.
To install, you remove the sealed beams and the Hella’s drop right in.

^ yup search " 7" Hella E-code" into the Google machine (or preferred search engine) and find them easily for less than $100 per pair and throw the sealed beams in the trash (or on the shelf I suppose).
Is, "night and day difference", and appropriate pun here? The chrome scoops have some cool factor. The painted ones on later cars... no. IMHO |

If your wiring harness headlight socket look grungy, you can get replacements. I used a Hella Light Bulb Socket (pn 001909001. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/hla-001909001).
