86 Carrara Whale tail gasket

Hello, I have an 86 Carrara with a stock whale tail, not a tea tray. I want to remove it and fit a new black trim piece to it. My problem is that I have removed the 5 bolts on the lower aspect of the tail, but it won’t budge. Are there other bolts holding it on, how many and where are they? Do I need to take the A/C radiator off?
I cannot find the bolts with good lighting and mirrors.
Pictures that I can find only show the lower holes in the rear deck lid.,

Thanks in advance for your help.

There are 5 mount points along the top. You need to lower the A/C condenser, but don’t disconnect the hoses so you don’t lose charge. It will swing down and rest on the engine. You’ll then see the top Allen screws.

Yes you need to drop the A/C radiator . DO not remove the hoses. You need to remove several bolts from the leading edge of the radiator.

As noted above, and its rather easy, unmount the condenser from the under side of the engine deck lid.

Tools, phillips screw driver, 8 mm wrench and socket, magnet pick up tool (extending type), side tray to put tools and stuff, 2 sheets of cardboard, moving blanket or canvas. If the car is not on a lift, a short chair or stool. Do a few squats to limber up. A hat on your head by chance you bang it on the underside of the deck lid. 2 tennis balls or hand balls, cut a slice halfway or one third into each one and push them over the corners of the engine deck lid so you don’t poke out an eyeball. Take a picture of each fastener condenser fastener point before you begin, and ditto on the rear whale tail spoiler.

Rear hood up, place blanket over motor, a few folds or layers worth, place fender protectors or blankets on rear fenders. On an 84-89 non turbo, disconnect the hose clamps securing the hoses to the hood hinges. Remove the allen bolt that secures the 180 degree hose fitting on the RH side. Place a blanket on top of the motor. Remove the small bolts that secure the condenser brackets on each hood hinge. Remove the bracket that secures the trailing center edge of the condenser to the under side of the hood’s center spare support. Carefully lower the condenser onto the blanket and be aware you do not want to put excessive stress (bend) on the ‘manifold tubes’ where the hoses fittings. Take a piece of cardboard and wrap it around the condenser (for that just in case moment).

If you do not have one already, download the Porsche Pet version of the pdf file for your year and model parts schematic here:
https://www.porsche.com/usa/accessoriesandservices/classic/genuineparts/originalpartscatalogue/
halfway down the page on the left, select 911 and 84-86

go to body main group 8, subgroup 813-55 for the condenser, and
803-10 for the tail

If you can document your fun here in your post I’m sure everyone will enjoy it.
Feel free to comment on spelling and grammar, halfway through coffee 1 waiting for the course to dry off.

Wow, thanks everyone for your directions. There were 5 brackets on the upper hood held on with H5 allen bolts just like the 5 holding the down side. I took off the 8 mm bolts holding the A/C radiator and let it droop. Key is placing a big blanket over the engine to catch anything small. Whale tail weighs more than I thought. I positioned the engine cover so it was level so the tail wouldn’t get away from me. There is always a surprise. After removing the whale tail I see that the gasket that I am replacing is held on the sides by 2 rivets on each side. Easily drilled out.
Good news. No bleeding and no scratches on the paint.
Thanks for the help.

I just want to add for future DIY that I used a heat gun very lightly to make the gasket more pliable and the glue more sticky. I think it really helped especially around the corner bends.
Thanks all.
