Rt side marker lights don't work

Before I start chasing wires, thought I would see if anyone had any ideas I didn't. Recently removed and replaced the engine and trans, and now the right side marker lights won't work with the headlight switch. They work if I jump a hot wire to either side of the fuse block. Tried a new headlight switch with no luck. Is there a common single point of failure here that I'm missing (can't find one in the Bentley manual)?

thanks as always

This will sound stupid but...did you mess with your engine lid light? Do a search of the board for engine lid light and parking lights. Shorting out this light, which happened to me when I didn't reinstall it correctly, will cause one half of your parking light circuit to be dead.

One other thing to check. There is a relay in the headlight/parking light circuits that is specific to the 1986 model year. No ther model year has a relay in this location at all. No one seems to know quite what it does or why it is there. Maybe check that out too?

Sounds like the parking light diode, a bizarre system peculiar to only the '86 911's. Easy to fix. Read this thread:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?threadid=10069&highlight=diode

Thanks Kurt,

Your thread is the one I had in mind when I mentioned the "relay". My goof.

On further reflection, if it were the engine lid light that was shorted the lights on the left side would be out. Gotta be the diode.

Good stuff, all...what a great reference this board is.

Thanks guys, I'll look at the diode and post results in this thread.
