911 sc
Hello, I have a 1982 911 SC that needs a voltage regulator. How hard is it to replace? I’ve looked at a few YouTube videos that weren’t very good and one had an issue getting shims back in correctly. I have okay mechanical skills but not sure about this.

You sure it's the voltage regulator and not the alternator. What is your output voltage?
At any rate, removal of the alternator/VR is not difficult. There are a few threads here that might be helpful on how to separate the fan housing from the alternator if you need to go that route. If you are new to the 911 maybe a good time to invest in a Bentley Service Manual.

If I'm right the 911 originally had external voltage regulators up to MY 1981. Yours is a '82 so I suppose it has a generator with included voltage regulator. There are some diy articles available:

Eric90, IMO, if you can successfully remove your alternator/VR, you'd be best off taking them both to a local alternator repair shop and have them refresh both the alternator and voltage regulator. Let us know where you live and somebody should be able to provide you with a local recommendation. FYI, best to be more descriptive in your subject line when posting a new topic on the forum -- i.e. "911sc Voltage Regulator removal advice needed" -- as this will get you a lot more exposure. Also, WELCOME to the forum
