TDC on crank pulley does not align to TDC mark on distributor - 3.2 Carrera
Continuing my project to strip my 3.2 engine down to a long block, I rotated the crank pulley to the TDC mark and noted that distributor is not quite to the TDC mark. It needs to rotate a few more degrees.
Is this normal? The engine was running very well before I started the tear down. Is this bad? Is the distributor installed 1 gear tooth off? Should I remove the distributor and get it aligned dead on the marks? ![]() ![]() |

Having recently reinstalled my own distributor, and getting lined up perfectly, I find myself questioning this now. Being off by one tooth on my own looked similar the picture above.

One tooth either way would make a lot more difference than that. Carrera distributor bodies don't turn to adjust timing like SCs and earlier. You plug it in and you get what's pictured. The mechanical advance adjusts the rotor tip a bit as the rpm changes to keep it in phase.
