P201 Engine Yolk Too Large Diameter for Stand ID
 

I bought the P201 engine yolk from QSC. The shaft of the yolk that goes into an engine stand is 60mm.

Like an idiot I naively assumed there was like an industry standard. I bought the harbor freight engine stand, the one with the legs that fold up, 2000 lb capacity.

The ID of the tube that the yolk goes into is only 50mm.

WTF? What stand will fit this P201 yolk? Of course I didn't check the fit BEFORE assembling the thing.

No, I'm not the guy who will cut the existing tube off the stand and weld a different size on.

Is that a bushing inside the yoke that you could press out? If not, can you remove the yoke and have it machined?

No, not a bushing - that's the tube that the yolk is supposed to slide into.

Wrong HF Engine Stand……..
 

You bought the wrong engine stand for the 60-mm OD P-201. I have four (4) HF engine stands and they all use the P-201 with no fitment problem.

I’m in St Paul near 36 and White Bear Ave. I have an engine stand that I used once with I think was the same brand yolk. What is the diameter of the yoke? I can check the stand to see if your yoke would fit and you could either borrow mine or I would sell it to you for a good price.

Hmm, I've got like more engine stands than pairs of shoes and never had a problem? Sounds like a Harbor Freight weirdness issue to me?

I dunno, man. This is really the only other one and given it's lighter load rating (1000 lbs) I'd be shocked if it were a 10mm larger diameter:

This one frankly seems sketch to me if you're trying to move an engine around but it seems a lot of you guys are using something very similar. Either way, I might pop down to a different HF and check that one out.

The P201 yoke has a 60mm diameter shaft.

The one I have is 62mm, so is the right size. Send me a PM if you want to buy or borrow.

Just measured mine out of curiosity. eBay yoke and HF engine stand (their lighter duty one). Never thought to ask about compatibility, luckily there wasn't an issue. Mine are both 60 mm. Just googled out of curiosity, doesn't look like this is a common problem. I'm thinking HF made a mistake with yours.

I’m the guy who cut the bad mount off and welded on a more fitting one.

Had the same issue with a 1000lbs capacity “Pittsburgh” stand purchased a couple months ago. The “Big Red” version with the proper fit may no longer be available. Everything seems to be IKON or PITTSBURGH now. HF didn’t publish ID spec for the mount tube. Don’t think QSC publishes an OD for the cradle post either. Did HF change design spec or supplier?

Ended up welding a 2.5” / 63.5mm ID steel pipe, maybe 6” long to the HF beam. 3.5mm difference. Added a 1/8” steel sheet - cut to the ID circumference and rolled up - as a bushing for a good fit.

If you go this route then remember to weld the new pipe 90* to the HF beam like the original mount. The beam is not 90* relative to the stand or floor when bolted to the rolling part of the stand. But the cradle pipe is 90* to the beam. The beam is on an angle which forces the engine / cradle weight against the pipe to keep it stable. This is in reference to the 1000 lbs capacity Pittsburgh stand… don’t know if all their stands have the same design feature. Maybe HF isn’t aware of all their features….

I had the same issue with a stand I bought in November. I think the new standard for the Harbor Freight engine stands is the 50mm opening. That was the size of the next few stands I found, too. At least those that listed a dimension. I finally found one at NAPA that worked with the 60mm yoke.

No, that's the end of the tube that the yoke is supposed to slide into.

So it seems I'm clearly not the only one who has encountered this apparent change in "design" for the various stands available today.
