A red L coupe is one of my “regret” cars.

$5000 in 1989. Dammit.

Maybe change the thread title to " My 1968 Porsche 911L restoration project"?

As Jeremy Clarkson would say "I'm having a crisis." (even though he doesn't like 911's)
That plating is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!

I had a 68 L engine in my 66 912.
It was mislabeled as a "T" in the ad, so no one wanted it. $1200 for the engine and transmission in 1988. Low miles, all the goodies with it.
He welded in the rear mounts, I got to cut out the oil tank holes on the sidewall. Good project for a kid.

Did you consult Shaun when taking those hardware pictures?

Looks like fun and nice work.

Should this remain under the Off Topic forum? I'd think it belongs under the Technical.

Many years ago, I went to look at a 68 911 engine one night during the winter and of course I bought it. It was an aluminum long block and the carbs and fan were missing, but as I loaded it, the owner started to throw the steels rims, air cleaner, pedal assembly and I can't remember what else into my trailer. He then asked if I wanted the rest of the car, so i went into the back yard and their was the tub of a 68 softie with the top off of it the plastic window gone and a lot of rust. At the time, no one was saving 911's in that bad of a condition, so I passed. I still have parts from that stored all over.

This is what the 911L looked like in 1979 when I bought it. Just think, it was only 11 years old

I'd hate to ask what you paid so I won't. We know.
