Distributor cap Gremlin
Have noticed today a gremlin in my distributor cap. This problem is a problem of the past, but seems to have grown quicker this time with the introduction of some newer electronic components.
This gremlin I speak of is carbon tracking. This carbon tracking on the pickup points of the cap are quite severe with very few miles on this new cap. Recently I invested in a Pertronix ignition(best decision ever) magnecor wires(super juicy) and within the system a Permatune cdi unit. The carbon build up has occurred so quickly, I know this can interfere with the ignition in the system, I know it occurs, but how can it be limited??? I do know the SC introduced the larger cap/distributor set up to cure or limit the effects of the carbon build up and tracking, but what can be done here... I don't like to file the teats, and don't need to replace a cap every 1200 miles or so... Any ideas??? |
