Fuel line fitting?
this is on a 63 356 (there is no action on the 356 forum)
How does this black hose come off the fuel pump for replacement?

I don’t know 356s but that looks crimped on somehow. I would get a Dremel and with a thin cutting disc cut the metal band and remove.

Where does the other end go?

Did you try pulling it off, maybe with a slight twist to break any adhesion?
I don’t think the ferrule does anything, and the hose is just pushed onto the fitting, like the other braided hose. Mark

It's crimped or swagged and it has to be cut off. The question is why? Doesn't appear to be leaking and newer than the other one with no clamp on one end. Not knowing 356's my guess is the brown line is a breather. I'd clamp that one to prevent possible fume/fuel leakage.

Good looking Euro heater 356. The brown hose is the fuel feed from the fuel tank and the black hoes goes to the carbs. If your goal is to remove the fuel pump, when you pull the brown hose, make sure you turn off the fuel tank feed in the cockpit under the dash. Otherwise clamp the hose so that gas doesn't siphon out from the tank. As for the black hose, grab it with a pair of pliers and try wiggling it sideways to see if it move. If so, wiggle it upwards until off. Otherwise cut the swaged fitting.

Yours looks like the pump for a 1956 to 1963 ones
![]() The one in the catalog for your year shows an updated one with push on fittings (https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/PCG10840100.htm?pn=PCG-108-401-00-INT&bc=c&SVSVSI=4209). ![]() Where does the other end of the black hose go to? Can you remove the pump and hose as an assembly and then figure out how to remove on the bench?

The black hose (unseen end) is leaking very badly from years of non-use. You can sort of see the gleeming wetness on that black hose. So I have to replace the hose and I did not want to just yank on that fitting until I know what the procedure is.
Guess I will try pulling and prying first before I get out the dremmel tool ... which causes a lot of spark ... near a leaking fuel hose... seems a bad idea.

If you're worried about using the dremel near fuel (I would be too), turn off the petcock under the dash and run the engine until it dies. Fuel supply lines will be empty at that point.

Well, it just slips off with help from a prying screw driver. I happened to have the exact cloth hose (7.5mm) on hand so I cut a length, slipped it back on, added a couple of hose clamps, and the car is back in bidness.

Jbugs.com has a great selection of german braided hoses. I bought some from him to restore an old datsun and they are good quality. Glad you got it sorted yelcab1 . Are you still into the fcars?

The braided hoses look cool and period for a 356 but the braided hoses that I've used from different vendors all leak after 1-2 years of service due to ethanol in gas that degrades the inner rubber hose. I suggest replacing the braided line with ethanol resistant Fuel Injection hose of the correct diameter.

I am lucky and have access to non ethanol fuel. I only use ethanol fuel in my modern daily driver.
