rear windshield with no heater lines?

Hi all

I was just wondering if anyone knows of a source of green-tinted rear glass for a 911 coupe, ideally without the heater lines? I have found suppliers with the front windshield, but not the rear for some reason.

Alternatively, has anyone tried to remove the heater lines?

Thanks
Tom

What do mean remove the heater lines? You can unplug them but you have to remove the seal.

They are certainly available. If you put a WTB ad in the classifieds you might score a used one. I think the heating wires are between the layers of glass.

Hmm thanks Jonny. I was hoping to physically remove the heater lines so they are no longer visible, but clearly if they're sandwiched that won't be possible.

I believe they are glued to the inside of the glass. On my 87 when I was getting it tinted they said some of the lines were coming off and that I would have missing spots for the heater.

You might double check the old glass, I think you could use a razor blade to strip the lines.

I can tell you that the effect that the heaterless screen creates is subtle, but to me it's was one of those amazing details that can set a car apart...

I looked through the auction listing for Project Heavy Metal and couldn't find a better picture but this does give an idea:

Believe me, I'm fully onboard with you. We've not met, but I certainly lurked on your project threads, and I'm also in Canada (Quebec). Is your rear glass green tinted or clear? One vendor has clear glass without the lines for early cars, but the rest of my glass is green and I'm concerned that it might look odd to mix them.

Google turns up several sources for new ones at reasonable prices.

If you have green windows, the clear (non-tinted) one will look out of place...

The base of the lines are fused into the glass during manufacturing. I tried to scrape a window clean, no go. But you can scrape and make them ghostly.

Thanks, all for the input. I just have to figure out what to do, and unfortunately budget comes into it as well....
