Frunk upgrade

I am in the final stretch of completing my ST build. Its a 3.6 with PMOs in a 71 911. I have been looking for ideas for the frunk and finally found my solution.

My objective was to carry the blue houndstooth upholstery from the seats into the frunk, as I did in the engine bay. Looking for solutions, most of the blower covers were too nice to cover so I opted for a custom solution.

Home Depot carries a product called Komatex. its a PVC sheet in a 2x3 cut. It's very strong and at the same time flexible. I was a able to cut to fit for the blower cover, create the curve and finalize the fit with a heat gun. Hopefully others will benefit from this. Pictures attached.

I am going to finish the frunk with black carpeting and have a nice edge sewed by the local upholstery guy.

Beautiful car. Nice appointments. Must be a rocket! Are you planning to cover the engine bay back wall as well with the same material with sound insulation.
BTW, what makes this car an ST?
Cheers,
Johan

st

I am leaving the engine bay as is. I like to open minimalist look. As far as the ST the car has wider steel rear fenders which gives it the ST appearance.

Beautiful car, but I wouldn't call it an ST. Looks like it has standard Carrera rear flares and no front flares. Here is an ST for comparison.

Your car is looking good! Keep it up.

I’ve always thought that Porsche did a poor job with the frunk on the early 911’s. It always looks disheveled. My latest car project is a 1983 911SC. I found a company in Poland that made a replacement sticker for me and found a fruck carpet set that is outstanding. Carbone is the company. carbone.pl

I had to make one modification. The snaps are black painted brass and the placement is tight. I bent the brass snaps with my thumbs and ended up replacing with Tanex Post Fasteners.

I've admired yours before - what materials did you use? Especially that floor material.

That 71 looks nice.

Here is what I did to the frunk of my 84 Targa.

Cheers

What material did you use for the base before carpet? Looks super minimal, amazing job.

Some nice craftwork. Bare naked is the way to go, but in the case of keeping the junk covered, here’s one just-in-case option every trunk should have…

Yes, it is a dent and some soldering from the previous owner who used the car on the track and had some unforunate „events“
