GT Racing roof - B pillar solutions? (coupe conversion)
Alright, so I’ve been looking at every thread on here regarding the GT racing fiberglass roof and I haven’t found any solutions to the B pillar. (This would only apply to a cab/targa to coupe conversion)
As you see, the roof does not include it ![]() ![]() If anyone has experience using this roof I’d love to hear about it and see pictures. I’m considering this roof (with a cage of course) but the B pillar is a worry of mine. I wouldn’t want a weird looking B pillar like this one (no offense to the owner, it just looks odd to me) ![]() Here’s a completed swap but no close up pictures of B pillars ![]() Looking forward to your responses |

What is the goal?
You've gone from cab to Targa, now you want to go from Targa to Coupe? How about using a fiberglass Targa top that can be painted red (your body color)?

Hey Brian, haven’t seen your car around in a while. The cab to targa was mostly an impulsive decision. I’ve always wanted a coupe, just didn’t know it at the time. And honestly, the targa kinda bored me. I’ve had several people already tell me to sell the car and buy a coupe, but that would be too easy right? I sold all the 930 stuff so the car will be changing colors after I sort out the longhood panels. The car is far from original so I’m not scared to tear it back up. Hope to see you at cars and coffee soon |

No, not really. I just spend the little free time that I have in the garage instead of sitting on my ass watching tv Last edited by Winter911; 06-20-2024 at 08:08 AM.. |

On a serious note I would look for pictures on the targa roofs that were done on the 996 and 997s.
Also look at the Hard top conversions from D Moris. You could keep your non frame door, glue a quarter window and make a metal profile to finish the B pillar to glue the quarter window and put some weather strip for the door. If you are handy with fiberglass you could mold a B pillar out of fiberglass cloth, like papel-mache technique but you need a real coupe to get it right Your franken B pillar would be non structural and probably bonded just like your roof. |

Use steel.

![]() What the guy above said. Get a steel roof from a recycler and make sure they leave the B pillar. Only hard part is either finding a slick-top or filling in the sunroof.

I found two NOS lock post extensions for my GT-r roof. I haven't installed them yet . . . I may not be using them due to a full metal roof I just came across which has them attached. Just not sure they are 100% there yet.
edit: depending on the metal roof, I also may put the gtr roof up for sale. Last edited by Jagshund; 07-07-2024 at 07:16 PM.. |

![]() This was back when it was in the living room- it has since made it into the dining room along with a new pair of quarter panels (also from GT) I was going to use with the roof. Last edited by Jagshund; 07-08-2024 at 02:43 PM.. |
