In search of my old 911

I had my 911 for 28 years and finally passed to a caretaker. I would like to see if it is still on the road. I have the VIN number but carfax won’t accept a 10 digit VIN. Any suggestions on how to track down my 911?

Don't all 911's thru 1980 have 10 digits?
What year is the car you are looking for?

It was a 1979 Targa. Carfax wants a 17 digit VIN number
