Routing wiring with fuel lines

If you’ve seen my other posts, you may be aware I’m working on re-locating the fuel pump in my car.

I think I finally found a route for the fuel pump wiping and it looks like the route that will best support the wire and avoid chafe is to route the fuel pump wires along with the fuel hoses.

There’s a welded on loop that’s to support the fuel lines and it looks like there’s juuuust enough room to get the wire in there along with the fuel lines.

Does anyone have heartburn running wire together with fuel lines?

Something about it doesn’t seem quite kosher to me, but the wire is well insulated, the wire and both hoses will be supported and protected from chafe and of course the hoses are rubber.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

I wouldn't worry about running the wire along the rubber lines through the tunnel. If the fuel line leaks, and the wires spark, it won't mater much if they are in the tunnel together.

However, I have thought about doing this too on my 1973.5T, but haven't got that far yet. But I did think about the wiring. Your car has a wire from the ignition switch to the fuse box to the fuel pump, that is Red/Green, IIRC (I don't have the wiring diagram in front of me at the moment). It comes up through the main wiring harness into the left side of the engine bay. It has a two pole connector that plugs into the short pair of wires that go to the pump (a blue wire and black wire). Go back to the frunk and find the terminal on the fuse box that powers the pump through the Red/Green wire, and use that terminal to go to the fuel pump relay.

If you needed to bring some current or signal from the engine bay forward, you could re-purpose that R/G wire. Say, for a CIS engine that you want to make the air meter safety switch work.

His doesn’t have the feed to the back as he asked for a tunnel harness with that wiring removed with the intent to move the FP to the front.
He has a separate FP harness modeled after the 70 style.

And, that harness is a beauty! Very factory looking. I take that back - it probably looks better than factory.
