70 911 steering wheel binding?

I just finished replacing the bearings and cleaning up the steering rack thinking this was the source of the binding I was getting in the wheel when turning. Turns out the bearings were shot but upon reassembly, I was still getting the binding. Best way to describe it is when turning the wheel it feels like a bearing is too tight.

I decided to remove my steering wheel and when I removed the bolt and pulled up a tad, the issue was resolved. When I tightened the wheel back up, as soon as I put any torque on the bolt the issue appears again.

Anyone with any ideas. I would hate to have to replace the steering tube bearings.

Do you have a picture of the parts you removed and the order you reassembled?

steering bearing

I know the rack is assembled correctly because I turned the wheels before I attached the steering and it was smooth. When I attached the couple to the steering I felt the problem Only when I removed the steering wheel bolt did I feel the problem go away. I have not fully pulled the when and parts off yet.

Looking for ideas of the problem before I went too deep into the steering column.

I had an issue with my steering rack binding at near full lock in one direction. I took the rack out and laid it on a piece of glass and it was bent. I then put it next to another rack and you could see it easily. If the vehicle was curbed, the rack could be bent. Just a point to consider, not saying that is your issue.

Solved the issue

I found the issue, the Thrust Ring (Bushing) for Steering Column Shaft(Porsche)(m)
Part #: 695-347-725-00-OEM had elongated so that it was no longer a smooth and round thus affecting the feedback when turning the wheel.

Thanks for the input.
