VR1 dino is a well-proven oil for use in these cars. there's always that.

My understanding from reading all of the many and extensive oil threads both here, and on many other boards led to the same conclusion of all of those threads. Early synthetic oils had significant problems with causing leaks because they had such high detergent properties, and they would cause problems with shrinking the seals, etc. Very quickly Most mainline synthetic oil producers change their formulation’s to prevent the seals from causing issues. Yes excess varnish will be washed away and if that’s what’s holding your motor together, it will start causing leaks. That said if varnish is keeping your engine from leaking it probably needs to be resealed anyway. Net result is I don’t think synthetic oils of today will cause any problems with our engines. Plus, I agree with Some above in that synthetic oils are far better at handling the high temperatures inside of our engines. That said I run VR one and flip between synthetic or dinosaur oil depending on what I find. No leak issues.

I've used M1 15-50 for 50 years in all my air-cooled over the years with never a problem.
change it every 5k or 6 months, if you want to pay more its your choice.
