1979 Porsche 930 engine sound
After a short drive, I couldn’t help but notice this sound. After reading different threads on failing timing chain tensioners or valve jobs, it doesn’t quite sound like that to me. So I’ve made a video. I’m contacting my pro-mechanic, but in the interim here it is.
Here’s what I see so far: Stars/occurs once engine is warm Definitely on the lower end Roughly 2,000 miles since full rebuild It is not a consistent sound Doesn’t go away after 2,000rpm Using a wood stick trick, I cant (yet) find it https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=12g1SpmeK2g Last edited by mic034; 12-10-2024 at 03:16 PM.. |

An engine cover / air duct plate / heat shield have loosened and is rattling now?
Check the heat exchangers and the exhaust too...probably sth has loosened inside.

Thank you. Good idea about the exhaust and heat exchangers…I haven’t thought of that. I’ll get it on my lift and have a better view of it and use my probe later this week.

When I heard this on my car it turned out to be the engine tin was loose, but I am not an expert.
Check the 10mm hex bolts holding the tin pieces together. Just a guest...and, Good Luck.
