Original spark plug
Hi,
I'm looking to buy new spark plugs for my 1979 Porsche 911SC 3.0L. I’ve noticed that most people seem to use Bosch WR8DC plugs, but originally the car came with Bosch W8DC plugs. Of course, I’d prefer to use the original plugs that were specifically made for this car, but they’ve been out of production for a long time. However, I’ve seen quite a few NOS (new old stock) Bosch Super W8DC plugs on eBay. Are these the same spark plugs that were originally installed in this Porsche back in the day? ![]()

I think actually most people use NGK is the correct heat range. I can’t speak to the quality of what is on eBay and would be very suspicious

i think the R plug has a resistor in it for noise suppression , but other that that they are the same plug.

I run NGK B9 ES in my 79 SC. I noticed that the Bosch ones that were in there before were made in Russia……

Today I removed the spark plugs from my engine for the first time and was surprised to find Bosch W3CC installed. That’s definitely not the same as W8DC. Isn’t W3CC too cold of a plug, considering the manual recommends a heat range of 8? I’m planning to switch to NGK BPR7EIX — what do you think?

The BPR7EIX may be what I put in my 83 SC a few months back… I would have to look at the receipt to tell you for sure. They seem to be great. Based on the warnings about faux NGK plugs being sold online I bought them from my local auto parts store.
As for the one (or more) old plugs in your car being too cold…. When I pulled my plugs they were all significantly out of spec with very large gaps. On one plug the electrode was basically entirely worn down. I don’t know what those excessively large gaps may equate to with temp but the car ran pretty well with them and only had a misfire at higher RPMs under load. |

W3CC Plugs
These were stock in my Malaysian ROW 82 SC. So, is engine ROW or US spec? |

I have been using NGK BPR6ES plugs for ages with great success.

My car is from Japan, so it's probably a bit different in some ways compared to the European or American versions.

thats what I got for my 1986 3.2 recently but haven't installed yet. did they require regapping out of the box?

Agreed. Japan vehicles have some country specific parts as listed in the PET. I'd investigate to determine if your car is Japan or ROW spec so you get the correct parts. Don't what modifications were done to it to get it into the US
