Squealing sound after shift coupler install?

Just installed a new Rennline shift coupler and I had to re-adjust everything but got it working great after numerous adjustments. Feels great when shifting in all gears but I get a weird squealing sound when I blip the throttle between shifts. Almost sounds like the fan belt but it’s only when down shifting. Wonder if my shifter is a bit off of neutral? Seems to only do it when I go to neutral and blip it. Any help is greatly appreciated!

If it wasn't doing it before the shifter swap, go back and check you got the adjustment right.

Did you reinstall the boot and cover plate? You might be picking up on a sound that were there the entire time.

I guess I’ll have to play with it some more but it shifts great in all gears. Thanks

Sometimes if the coupler adjustment is off, it can make the sound you describe, often the gears will still change ok, however; with short shift leavers, its a bit more critical that you get it right.

If you were replacing factory shift coupler with play in it for a “0” play aftermarket coupler, that could be the culprit. The play engineered into the original is for noise reduction. You won’t always get noise with aftermarket coupler, but sometimes you do.

Yeah I know I get the noise but it’s not that. This is very different it’s loud and only happens when I rev, pop in neutral and rev. It’s either my fan belt which I guess is possible or the coupler. I’m going to change the belt and see if that’s the culprit.

before changing the belt, you should be able to let the car idle and rev it from the throttle body and watch the belt get tension to listen for the squeal to see if its indeed the belt.

how many washers do you have inside and out on the fan pulley? you would visibly see it wobble if its too loose. it may only happen while your driving under load vs just revving it in neutral, but you would be able to see the belt is loose just by watching it idle and rev it while being under the hood. sounds like it could be a coincidence with the coupler replacement and the belt wearing to a point where it squeals at just the right RPM. measure the belt width too. I was getting premature belt wear due to rust on the crank and fan pulley. incorrect tension will definitely make it squeal when revving.

Thank you for the response. The belt that I replaced was a 725x10mm and it seemed to be chewed up a little on the sides. I replaced with a 725x9.5 and it seems much better but I have yet to test it out. Deflection is about .5-.75” so within spec. I believe I have 3 washers inside and 3 outside. No wobble and everything looks good. I’ll report and see if that’s did the trick! Thank you

Well sure enough it was the belt! I had recently redone that as well but I never heard the noise so I assumed it was from the coupler install. Replaced with a 9.5” and the sound is gone!
