Old 911’s put out way more smog than say an 85 yet they are exempt from smog. This law would make it much more fair.

Air cooled p cars are hard to smog and California made the tests more strict . Is able to make the rules, however they want them. Car must run perfect to pass. And even that depends on the individual machines.

I was bummed last week when they had the rally downtown - I didn't know ahead of time otherwise I would gone down to drive in it... I think it has a reasonable chance to pass. we'll see though.

So glad it cleared the first hurdle. Fingers crossed it becomes law soon-it could make a real difference.

All good points being made in the clip.

Makes sense.

Such a dichotomy this state is, home to the traditional "car culture" even today yet with laws intended to make them go away.

Motronic/CIS cars will pass ....

if you can find a station which does it.
Kinda like so many law enforcement movies and TV shows based in San Francisco, and look at it today.

Yes, because smog is due on my 964 in June.

I'm hoping other states (like Oregon) will follow this law.

Where are Oregon's smog rule zones? I know we don't have it where I live. Is it just the major urban areas?

Not going to help your car in June, even if it passes... likely wouldn't go into effect until next year...

As far as i knew back in 2008 when i did my last LA smog all the machines are connected to central headquarters-or what the name of this office is.They can see all the test done and even those days you could not cheated..
I wonder if that goes through-it should..

If and when it passes, Kalifornia laws that are invented by unelected bureaucrats will suck just a tiny bit less. This state sucks muddy canal water when speaking of stupid government and politicians.

Vehicles '75 and newer have to pass smog cert every two years in the Portland Metro and Medford/Ashland areas (unless you have special purpose plates which limit yearly mileage). I occasionally hear talk of Oregon wanting to expand this program...

Great news for our CA brothers.

So 1990 and older are now smog exempt?

You might be a bit premature on that one; I hope this clears all the hurdles...
