I’m in the process of shopping around for new sport seats in my 84 Carrera coupe. I’m 6’2 235lb so I’d like to get something suitable for my frame. So far, I like how these look but since I don’t have access to sit in them it’s tough to gauge which one will fit me best. Also, I’m stuck on what is more “period correct” for my 84 although I know I’m probably overthinking it and will just go with what I like. I’m posting here to see if anyone has owned any of these seats I’m considering and can provide some real life feedback on what you like/don’t like about them.

In my opinion out of that selection the only ones that would look right are the Porsche seats.

I would NOT use the fixed buckets on a street-driven car. Yeah, they hold you in place, but for street driving they end up holding you in place too well, and don't allow you to adjust the seat back to relieve long distance pressure points.

It would be useful to know how you use, or intend to use, the car. If you buy fixed back seats then access to the rear is limited which makes road trips more of a challenge from a luggage perspective. I was looking for something that was all day long comfortable and at the time had the same Porsche sports seat in your picture, great comfort and hold but I hated the look of the slabby, square headrest which is also way to far back from your head to be of use. I went for GTS Classics Granturismos. Lovely!

I’m in New Jersey, I’ve got a set of Recaro Lx’s that are black with red plaid inserts, I’d be looking to sell them if you want to try them out, send me a pm

I also saw the granturismos and would consider them. Mind posting your interior to see how they look? Any drawbacks after purchasing? |

Opinion on seat upgrade
I’m 5’11, 31” waist and 145# and I have the Nurburgring R: I love them to death but my hips are pretty secured in the seats. I don’t more around during spirited driving and I’ve done 11 hours straight in them and felt fine.
They’re not huge seats and the bolsters on the sides are less pronounced than some of the other offerings but they are still robust and I’ve had others who are larger comment that they felt tight. Those fixed seats look the part but I’m. It sure is want to be in them for regular driving. Also, for a later car, I don’t think most of these seats will look right save for the bottom two. The rallye seats and the Nurburgring look great in long hoods but might not fit an IB car. That said, to hell with what I think- do what makes you happy.

For street use, I agree with PeteKZ on not using the fixed seat. They are uncomfortable to get in and out. If you use jeans, the little rivet by the pocket manages to dig through the bolster as you jump in or out and starts to destroy the seats.
Reclining seats also let you adjust the seat to be comfortable for you.

I got the BF Turino in my 71 911. So far anyone who tried them said they like them.
I ordered them direct from Europe. ![]() ![]() Cheers Engelbert

I’m in NYC and have Sports seats in my SC if you’d like to test sit.
At your size I think the Torinos and the Val’s are going to be a tight squeeze and uncomfortable (at best) on longer trips. I like my Sports seats a lot, the bolsters are supportive during (very) spirited driving, and I can be in them for 8-9 hour stints to get to rallies/events. The only time I’ve craved something a little more bucket-style (like a Scheel 101) is on the track, but it’s not terrible. I’m 6ft 190lbs, for comparison. My seats (reupholstered by the PO + bolsters too):

A competent shop can go from the comfort seats to the sport seats for a fair price. I think they'll work for your use case and look right doing it.
They can also shave some foam out of the seat base to lower you down some if you need some more headroom.

For bigger dudes, I highly recommend the Scheels. They're spendy but OEM quality and easily the most comfortable seats I've found for road trips/rallies.

Negatives on the Sport seats is that they tend to sit a bit high. As someone else mentioned, trimming down the foam in the seat (there’s… a lot) can help buy you an inch or two. Else you’re looking at custom rails / mods.

That’s a big concern. I’m 6’2 and have a tiny bit of space overhead with my comfort seats. These will seem to have me touching the headliner.

I removed the seat rails and installed the thick comfy GAAH seats to the floor @ 1" to the rear and 1.5" lower. My helmet has a top cooling inlet that now clears the roof. Spirited driving with a unexpected correction can make a tall guys head smack the roof /door edge. For just this safety reason I justified the mod to the car. One bell ringer was enough for me.

I ordered the BF torino nurburgring R's direct from germany. with sliders and shipping to US they came out to 2450$ which is a significantly better price than a lot of the shops in US.
