idle issue with AC on in my 3.6 VRAM hotrod

I have an issue that maybe you guys can help with. My car is set to idle around 1000 RPM and it seems to need this so engine will not cut off after letting off the throttle and the rpms dropping too low. It has a light flywheel. It does have a chip that I thought would take care of this problem ,but it does not. It is livable until I turn on the AC and the idle drops 150-200 rpm and it cuts off most of the time when letting off the throttle unless I blip it a bit. Do you think this is a chip issue or an idle control valve issue?

who did the chip, you may want to check with them. is the car a 993 or is the motor in another chassis, it may have a wire that talks to the ecu to tell the ecu to raise the idle thats not connected if its not in its native chassis.

I know when we put a light weight flywheel in my '95 3.6 (in my '71 914-6) I used a Steve Wong chip to address the light weight flywheel issues. Steve said if I did not do a chip, when I took my foot off the pedal, the engine would want to die as it did not have the additional weight (rotating mass) on the flywheel a stock engine had. We installed Steve's chip and I have no issues when taking my foot off the pedal. Car idles religiously at about 850 RPM. Oh, I do not have AC... wish I did.

thanks guys. car is an 80sc wide body with a 96 3.6. I will check the wiring since it is not native to the car. I may need to get the Steve Wong chip

You may be SOL.

stalling w/ A/C & a l/w flywheel was a common issue w/ '95 NVR usually cured w/ a stve w chip

it's not a common issue w/ vram

I certainly never had it when I had my 3.8 vram in my '76, nor do I have it w/ my '95 nvram currently in my '76 or the 3.8 in my 993

both have l/w flywheels, and both have Steve W. chips

Your issue may be the '96, if it's a US '96 Vram then the DME is a unique one-year design that cannot be chipped or flashed, if its' a RoW '96 vram then Steve can certainly provide a chip for it.

If it's a US 96 then you have 3 ways to go
1) buy a '97-98 US 88 pin DME and have it flashed
2) convert to 55 pin RoW spec
3) convert to Motec or similar

Thanks Bill, it is a European VRAM, so it looks like a Wong chip may be in my future. The car runs really well otherwise

Out of curiosity does your car ever cut out if you shift to neutral and coast to a stop sign or red light?
I had a specific issue with my 90 964 with a lightweight flywheel. in addition to what I described above also gates having the ac on. But I bet you anything the answer is in a solid tune
