Thanks, I will definitely call Griffiths. My system is still definitely on R12 (small black cap, no new fittings etc). I’m a little intimidated about running all new hoses, but I’ll get over it. ;)

Did Griff's upgrade during Covid. Replaced everything and added 2 condensers in rear passenger wheel well. Has worked great. Have a 35-40 difference from ambient temp. Griff was great to work with. Check out all the options. A lot has changed in 5 years. The upgrade was a long term project and my car had no rust which made it easier. Good luck.

Replacing hoses is not hard, but it is dirty and not fun. I used some wire, and duct tape to connect the new hose to the old one and pulled it through one at a time.
Just follow his instructions step by step. They are incredible instructions and great quality parts. You will finding yourself saying, wow, nice parts, and how clever is that way to do something. And Charlie is great to get help as he is the man.

However you restore the system to operating make sure to add in a pressure switch.

I don’t think “Barrier Hose” existed in cars before the invention of R134a. In the era of R12, nobody (99.9% because there is a very chance) used Barrier Hose.

I have a Griffiths “911 Porsche 1978-83 AC Reliability Package Upgrade 2”, with his front and rear Condensers, his variable fan switch, lower side outlets. In addition, the added driver’s side lower outlet has a direct feed from the cold box. I also installed a 3x forward condenser fan. Additionally, there are two other Condensers that could be installed, but I don’t think I need them based on the climate I live in. My summary is it is very acceptable. Even at idle it works well and little dip in RPM that I notice.

+1 on Griffiths. I installed the Mr Ice package and it's probably the best AC I've had in any car. instant ice cold air with a lot of volume with new fan. measured vents at 32 degrees on a ~92 degree ny day a couple weeks ago.

From my reading, barrier hose was around in the 70s, but it cost more per foot. Porsche decided to save a few bucks per car, and use the cheaper non barrier hose. R12 was 50 cents per can, just recharge every spring.

I can now go several years with no recharge at all.
