Rally car is close to the first start!!!

Well, after nearly 9 years since I bought this car to replace my old Galant VR4 rally car, the '81 SC is nearly complete. Still waiting on some brake parts, skid plates and a few other bits, but I should be able to start it this week.

Wow! Looks gorgeous - expected tons of "safari" style bits but this build looks all business.

It's a proper competition car. Aiming for Oregon Trail rally to be first event...assuming i get it tuned and running proper. Build the engine in 2014.

Looks sweet!

And are those the fuel lines coming through the body behind where the foot pedals would go?

Yes, the oil is on the co-driver side.

So... it's your money... but why rally something so nice? And expensive? I mean... I love rallying but it has a predisposition to .. ya know... trash ****.

I bought the car back in 2013 and paid 9k for it. I've done almost everything myself and while i've invested a penny into it, I only built it to go racing again...and, I like building cars.

911s are pretty simple. I'd guess that it would be more difficult to "total" than a more modern car. Not much you can't fix on it, really, if needed. And the fact that it's worth something means it's worth fixing instead of discarding.

Nice clean build! What sanctioning body/class would this run? (Edit - looked it up myself as I'm a little out of touch since I sold my 323GTX! ARA really has their poop together if the website is any indicator. So this would be limited 2WD?)

Congrats. Looks awesome. What's the plan for the brakes, since the fuel cell has been moved? Early style pedal mounted master cylinders, aftermarket Tilton/Ap? What kind of spring rates are you running?

I'm currently waiting to get my pedal assembly and handbrake back from Tuthill in the UK. They are also supplying the 4 pot calipers they run on the gravel and safari cars. They are pretty simple and run stock Carrera rotors when not on tarmac. Spring rates are 19mm front and 27mm rear and NO bars.

Good luck man. As for the livery... I guess I would suggest something that covers behind the front wheels from the belt line down; the vinyl would basically act as a chip guard from the front wheels. I'm sure you'll have flaps too, but that would help protect the paint.
