I'm excited to see how this turns out. That Vette is ridiculous.... Are you planning the Hot Rod the Porsche?

Thank you! The vette was a great project. I do miss it sometimes.

The Porsche will definitely be a hot rod also!
I'm working to get you all caught up on the build to where I am currently at as I have been working on this for about a year in my garage as a weekend warrior.

So, much more to come!

You are being humble lol. That welding job looks pretty solid.. Rusted Porsche is more costly to fix on a Porsche than whole engine.
I would need to first get a lot of practice. I stay in Buffalo, so next 6 months nothing can be done unless someone has heated garage.
Hopefully until then I can hone my skills and buy the MIG weld machine.

It is handy anyway.
Will keep an eye on how this turns out. I am sure it will be great and will fetch good $$$ at the end of everything.

Thanks khan! Appreciate it!
Everything is for sale for the right price, but I don't plan on it going anywhere. This is one that I have dreamed about for a while.

'Bubba' was here!

This body had a few fun finds... Here is one of them.
The lowest point of the floor is where the pedals are set. On this occasion, someone took a patch panel cut it to overlap on the non-rusty area of the pan, then sheet metal screwed it and JB Weld'ed the entire area. Although functional, lets call it less than ideal.
I was able to disassemble and fortunately be able to trim both sides and repair it properly....

Here comes the 'real' fun!

What do you call buying a car sight unseen, only to find out it's a total rust bucket?
A real-life mystery box where the prize is tetanus.
And, baby, I hit the jackpot!

As many here can relate, I figured the rocker and the kidney bowl reinforcement would be in rough shape.
Yup!

I had to shrink the aftermarket part to fit the profile of the factory rocker...

And the Passenger side is done!

I ended up replacing the entire lockpost assembly also (black panel). Then tah-dah rear rocker area on the passenger side is done!

Now the front rocker and fender support!! Good God, does it ever end?!

Wow, I can only image the effort and time going into this and what it will sell for..

I bought a rust bucket 2 years back.. that was my 1st 911 ever. Did not check the floors or smugglers box and rear seat moldings. All rust.
Someone said they will charge me like 80K to fix it or more. LOL :D

I sold it for 10K loss. The engine was great.. 2.2L with MFI (loved the MFI)

Since then.. I avoid rusty cars. Especially floors and hidden areas. I did buy a 80SC recently. Some surface rust but nothing as bad as I had.

AcidGypsy 10-22-2025 05:14 PM

Oh yes, the driver side also...

Not to be outdone by the passenger side rocker suspect areas, behold the wonderment that lies beneath the driver rocker panel...

If you think that is a lot of cutting and welding, just wait...http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1761178488.jpg

AcidGypsy 10-26-2025 09:13 AM

Point of no return!

So here we go...

The ride height will be lower than stock & European settings. As many here know, this starts to induce rear camber issues and that 'stanced' look. That look really bothers me as well as changes the original suspension geometry. So, I went back and forth on this for a long while and decided to add the Tarett rear camber boxes.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1761482036.jpg

When welded in place, these boxes end up extending into the rear seat area. But honestly, its a small tight space back there and not really realistic for any passengers.
So...
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1761494065.jpg

Added reinforcement welds to the stock mounts to the torsion tube.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1761494065.jpg

Level the car to the earth... Level the camber box and measure about 300 times... then measure again... Then weld...
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1761494065.jpg
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1761494065.jpg

Shaving down the stock mounts a hair at a time!
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1761494065.jpg
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1761494065.jpg

Also tied in the torsion tube to the rear vertical pan. Also peep the elephant racing stab bar mounts welded in!
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1761494065.jpg

This was a big chunk of work and time getting them right. In the end they turned out great. I even modified the Tarett height adjuster block and the bolts. more to come on that!

AcidGypsy 10-31-2025 06:00 PM

Rear Seats?! What Rear Seats?

Due to the height of the tarett rear camber boxes and the 'smallness' of the rear seats, they have officially been eliminated! So now it will be for luggage and other small odds & ends.
More cutting and measuring multiple times... Then bead rolling the large piece and welding it in. From the bottom side I reinforced the area with 'T' braces. There eventually be sound deadener lined over the top before carpet. Turned out nicely and will give more room from the underside for any work needed.

Mucho Measuring

Because the rear of the rotisserie mounts to the spring plate bolt locations, its time to make a smaller movable cart for the next steps.
Yep... I'll be adding 930 flares...
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1762723645.jpg
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1762723645.jpg

In retrospect, It would have been much easier to weld the ER Spring Plate Reinforcements on AFTER cutting off the SC Flare as the access would have been WAY easier, but live and learn.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1762723645.jpg

I also blasted and replaced the banana arm wheel bearing and ER Spherical Bearings and also made some angle Iron coil-over replicas to represent ride height. Those old wheel bearings were in there really good! Had to throw some heat at it, and then the audible 'POP' sound when they came loose.

I kept myself motivated by doing some very loose mockup for a quick photo op! She looks meaty and mean!
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1762723645.jpg

Everyone is getting very close to being caught up with the current status. I still have some work to do in a short amount of time before it goes to see the stripper!

Great (ambitious) project with great results, I guess there are guys out there more crazy than me. What are your plans for an engine/trans?

When I bought this project, it didnt have an engine or trans. So I ended up finding a 3.0 with a rebuilt trans. Problem was, with the engine, that it needs a complete teardown as there are broken exhaust studs on the #1 and #4 cylinders. So this one will come ALL the way down and go back together as a proposed 3.2ss with twin plugs and ITBs...
My poor wallet.... I hear it crying now...

Greatly appreciated everyone! You know when your getting close to the end of a singular part of the project (in this case, rust repair) and your just like 'I cant wait for this $hit to be done!' I'm so there now, so your encouragement is helpful to get this one over the goal line! Getting so close!

"I need more Flair"

The point of no return has come.
Break out the welder, dolly and hammer. Then bring in the pro to clean it up!
