Restrictor or PCV??
I am trying to figure out whether this is a PCV, or the restrictor shown in the parts manual. It doesn't look like the restrictor to me. Is this supposed to be there? If so, I can't find a part number for it.
Any help appreciated. Thanks ![]()

Ok,. I found it- it's a PCV, but it's not available anymore....has anyone found a suitable substitute part? PCV's are not generic, they are each calibrated differently, so I can't just replace it with one that has the same physical dimensions....

Positive Crankcase Ventilation Valve
Vents fumes and vapors and positive pressure back into the induction system to be burned off, reducing unburned emissions. It's a sprung one-way valve and can get stuck open or closed due to gumming up from oil vapor. These can be sometimes rehabilitated by cleaning them internally. For replacement, if you can figure out what the spring rate is, a non-Porsche-taxed (or unobtainium) substitute should be fine. |

Thanks. At $55+. I will probably try to rehab the one I’ve got. As 917 Langheck mentioned, you can’t just swap these for a random pcv from another car- but they can be tested and the rate can be determined to find a substitute…..you will be buying a lot of pcv’s to find a suitable replacement! Just remember that you might be using a 200k+ mile pooped-out pcv for testing, if you are using your old one to find the rate.

Dave, I would just wash it out with a can of B-12. It should rattle when you shake it and you should be able to blow through it one way but not so much the other. Of course make sure all your vacuum lines are sound and properly routed and check "D" and "E" with a vacuum pump to make sure they work like they are supposed to. Unless you take your car up to the ski slopes the system won't see much use anyways.
