I'll say it again, that engine and transmission mounts are an extremely overlooked part of proper alignment of the drivetrain in relation to the shift linkage. If they are over 10 years old, chances are they are worn out beyond usefulness. My 1982 mounts were original and sagged so badly that the transmission shift snout was nearly resting at the bottom on the bulkhead shift rod tube.

This https://www.redlineoil.com/75w90-ns-gl-5-gear-oil oil is amazing and actually makes shifting so much better in my toyota and porsche compared to cheaper oils.

Nor am I an expert on 915 transmissions- at least not enough to speak with authority on potential implications in using the spring. Maybe someone who is can chime in (Matt @ Guard Transmissions are you out there?). I would welcome the opportunity to expand my knowledge on this subject.
The shifter linkage all the way from the knob to the tranny fork "floats" in neutral under the OEM setup. I would suppose that is no longer the case with a spring.

To your second point, can you please explain how my acknowledgement that the spring is not for Phil is “railing” on him?
Well, you did have Phil apologizing profusely so there's that...

Not every modification that everyone does to personalize their particular 911 will be something that’s for anyone else. As I stated to Phil, “that’s fine”. He likes the way his 915 performs for him, I don’t have any problem with that. He’s happy, what’s not to like about that?

I’d actually go a step farther in regards to modifying these cars (from the spring to lighting to exhaust to bumpers to engine internals, etc., etc.) and say this personalization is one of the more interesting and cool things about this hobby and this forum. I like seeing what others do to their cars, some ideas I like enough to explore deeper. Others are not for me, but it’s not my car, so more power to the owner and their personal vision. Whatever makes people happy. Because Happy Is Good. .

Of course.

Hi,

I had the 915 factory short shift kit installed, went then to the Rennline exactshift billet short shifter… wasn’t happy with this one and replaced it by the CAE shifter. Quality and function are superb… Nothing beats German engineering.

Cheers

I'm happy with my Numeric. It fits fine with the stock rubber and console as well. I much prefer the self-centring function and it comes with the solid coupler as part of the purchase.

After my 915 was rebuilt this winter it’s as nice of a transmission as I’ve ever experienced. No lag in 1st to 2nd, no slipping, grinding, pausing, forcing, sweet talking or cursing.

The change from prior to the rebuild was night and day.

We just did the tail of the dragon yesterday en route to Overcrest, and I didn’t even think about my shifting at all- it just did what I wanted; rowing through the gears as the car slalomed through the switchbacks.

When properly sorted, the 915 is a perfectly wonderful transmission. All of the aftermarket products are bandaids (of varying degrees of utility, performance and hype) until the internals are addressed.

Stock shifter, karsten spring, new bushings, Novak tunnel bushing, wavetrac LSD, taller 5th…otherwise stock
