Generator contacts

I'm replacing my old Motorola alternator that had an external voltage regulator with a new generator.
I will no longer need the DF cable to the external voltage regulator but I still need to connect the Red cable and the Blue Signal cable that goes to the instrument panel.
The Red to + , but where and how do I connect the blue?
